| Description |
Course description: This course is designed to enable adult learners to function effectively in modern standard Arabic at an elementary level using the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking in a balanced way.
Key Competence: Communication in a foreign language.
Learning Outcomes: Students will be familiarised with some of the differences between formal and colloquial Arabic as well as exposed to Arab culture. Emphasis is placed on aural and oral expression. The course will additionally provide grounding for continued study of the language at a later stage. Towards the end of the course students are expected to read, write and understand simple conversation.
Contact hours: One weekly session of 3-hours duration.
Assessment: Participants will sit for a final exam to assess the learning outcomes at the end of the course.
Course requirements: This course assumes no previous knowledge of the Arabic language.
Recommended Texts: Notes and handouts will be provided.
The Directorate for Lifelong Learning shall be receiving applications between Friday 20th August and Friday 3rd September 2010 from 8.30am till noon.
